The left doesn’t even understand its own philosophy!
New York Times columnist Maureen Dowd last week gave an unspirited semi-defense of Michelle Obama’s Marie Antoinette routine in Spain. Michelle, as you no doubt know, spent vast amounts of your money on a lavish Spanish vay-cay giving the big finger to the rest of us as we try to figure out how we’re going to pay for President Me’s narcissistic revamping of America in his own irresponsible and wholly unrealistic image.
But here’s what got me about Dowd’s reaction – her lede:
Her critics used to paint her as a scary Marxist. Now they cast her as a spoiled princess.
During the campaign, she was caricatured on the cover of The New Yorker as a fist-bumping, gun-toting Black Panther. Now she’s mocked by a New York Daily News blogger as a jet-setting, free-spending Marie Antoinette.
Do you really not get this, Maureen? There’s no contradiction here! Marxism is the system of wealthy leaders and their Marie Antoinettes. Socialism and Communism don’t result in some fair utopia of all-around equality. They create two-tier systems that reward power instead of hard work and creativity. You think Fidel Castro is living in one of the hovels to which he’s consigned most of the people of Cuba? Of course not. He lives in a palace! We know because we see it on TV when some servile slave of our state media goes to perform another fawning interview with him there. You think the Soviet high command suffered like the people they oppressed?
Are leftists really this naive? If so, it’s no wonder they throw up presidential images like Barack Obama – instead of presidents.
