Great Ghosts for Halloween

As readers of my blog will know, I am a huge ghost story fan.  But I only recently discovered this wonderful series from the British publisher Wordsworth books.  Their Mystery and the Supernatural line includes such hard to find stuff as a collection by Oliver Onions—the funny-named author of the classic ghost novella “The Beckoning Fair One”—as well as ghost story anthologies by masters such as Edith Nesbit and Conan creator Robert E. Howard.  There are also Oriental, Scottish and Irish collections and great novels such as The Monk.  Other books are more widely available—a collection by the great M. R. James and stuff by the sometimes terrific Wilkie Collins (whose books played a huge role in directing my own writing)—but Wordsworth puts out nice versions in attractive volumes.  They all seem to be available at Amazon too.  Worth checking out for Halloween.

Of course, you can always check out my own ghost tale The Advent Reunion as well.
