High Pre-Pub Praise for “A Killer In The Wind”

A Killer in the Wind, my next thriller for adults, is not due out until January — and first there’s the young adult adventure If We Survive due out next month — but the publishing trade magazine Kirkus Reviews has already reviewed Killer and praised it highly, saying, “this stand-alone, from the author of the Weiss and Bishop series (Damnation Street, 2006, etc.) and the youth-oriented Homelanders series, evokes the gritty classics of Cornell Woolrich and Jim Thompson while spinning its own brand of hard-boiled psychological suspense.”

Woolrich and Thompson are, of course, two giants of the hardboiled crime field.  Woolrich’s brilliant stories inspired such films as “Rear Window,” “The Bride Wore Black,” “Mississippi Mermaid,” and “Original Sin.” Thompson wrote the books that inspired such films as “The Grifters,” “The Killer Inside Me,” and “The Getaway.”

When a modern like myself is compared to them, he should go out and take a walk and try to forget it.
