This book keep me reading and enjoying every word of it, it was sad at the end and I felt so bad for Charlie in prison, with all that he went thru and to come out with his family knowing what he did for his country, this made me cry. But I so enjoyed the books very much. Will look for more of his books, he is a writer that has got my attention. Thank you for the good reading material.
The Long Way Home
Eleanor F. Forrester -
I picked up this book because a friend recommended it as having the most perfect story opening. Mike is invited to his boss's idyllic Christmas party at his home away from the big city. He plummets into a romance with the boss's daughter, Susannah. Everything is better than he could have imagined until the night everyone shares stories to pass the time. Mike tells one about a man with a terrible facial scar, who is hunting a victim in some made-up town, and Susannah, the woman Mike most hopes to impress, freaks as if he has viciously offended her. She leaves the next morning without explanation or apology. It was just a ghost story. Why did she react this way? Since he can't stop thinking about her, he drives to her college dorm to try to make up to her, and when he arrives on campus, his headlights pass over a man crossing the road--a man with a terribly scarred face. Was Mike's story actually a work of his imagination? Did he read it somewhere and forget it was true? But even if it is true, what does it have to do with Susannah? Many details refuse to add up until Mike can hunt them all down, sort fact from fiction, and determine whom he can trust. This is a fun read, more of a mystery than a thriller. And it isn't a ghost story, though it may feel like one in spots.
Fun Mystery with Excellent Set-Up

Delighted at yet another account of how the One who made us, shows His magnificence in how He draws us to an awareness of Himself. Klavan's writing skills deliver his story with clarity and honesty, showing us how the God we cannot see right now is pursuing us in love. His struggles with his father brought me to tears and reminded me once again, that I'm not the only one in that struggle. Thankful for the peace & joy that Andrew enjoys, calling attention to the One who gave it.

Not what I expected from a "Jesus book" — thank God. As a fan of Andrew Klavan's fiction, I didn't know what to expect in a nonfiction offering—especially in a religious book. Great insight into how he became who he is today. If you like Klavan's work, this is a delightful change from his typical thrillers. As Mr. Klavan points out in interviews, it's more of a love letter to his wife, and that really stands out in the tenderness and vulnerability he demonstrates in detailing what situations and decisions led to his declaration of faith.
Unexpectedly Interesting…

Andrew Klavan #1 he knows how to word kraft, #2 he knows how to tell a good story, #3 I love how he describes traversing the socio/academic/political landscape from the sixties to the present with great insight and verve!!! He reads his own book on audio. What a treasure. I LOVE him, his revelations and transparency. Oh, and I love how he loves his wife. I agree with his world view -that the Bible is at the root of the western world ethos but most of all I love the thoughtful way he came to his observations. AND I love his final revelation of JOY. I hope people aren't so closed minded or prejudiced not to go to their libraries and read (for free) one chapter...
One amazing Jew!

Such an interesting path Andrew has walked thus far. I'm so glad he decided to share this part of his story with the world. He shares his walk with the LORD as he tries to convince himself that there is no God. Both his parents were agnostic or atheist, but yet there is some thing he continues to seek.
A Great Really Good Read!
YAS Girl -
Love this book, love Andrew Klavan's story, love the conversion and love, love, love the message. I walked with him through every step. Even though we didn't go to the same college, etc., I certainly experienced some of the same angst, depression, neurotic tendencies, etc. and I, also, had to walk softly [my ego] and carry a big stick [my psychotherapy] to find my way out of the weeds and realize my relationship with God, Jesus Christ and my true self were very much in tact the whole time. Waking up to my true nature, my true self and the consistency of being guided, guarded and governed by a higher power in every aspect and phase of my life has given me a similar kind of joy that is described in the book. A delightful, insightful and an extremely honest self examination by Andrew Klavan - one of the finest writer of our time. Read it, reflect on it and yourself, you won't regret it.
Great Read. Don’t Miss this Opportunity.

Good lord, this book has you racing toward the end, and when you get there you have to get up, take a break from the Kindle, pace around with anxiety, before you can get back to it. What writing. What a writer. Others have told the storyline, but until you read it you have no idea what a great book this is. Klavan needs a new agent - he should be as famous as Stephen King. Male characters outstanding, female not as good but they are secondary. Only negative that occurred is that I had to skip some of the paragraphs in my hurry to the end. A woman can only take so much.
So Intense, Had to Take a Break Toward the End

Congratulations, Mr Klavan! All the classic devices of the crime thriller, and some new ones, but nothing feels contrived. A condemned-cell drama, but miraculously fresh, with an almost praeternatural avoidance of clichés. I honestly would not have though that the classic situation could be so fresh. Our hero is a grievously flawed man—but redeemed triumphantly by love--of just two things his son, and the truth. More precisely of truth-telling. The humour is good to excellent. There is deep psychological accuracy in the depiction of the wrongly condemned man, his unwitting persecutors, his would-be saviour, spiritual comforters good and bad, the stricken wife.... all parts are written with sympathy and insight. Considerable learning is worn very lightly (there is a fictional vignette where Aristotle's Poetics is brought in with a deftness that had me smiling for hours). Read this book! You will want to read it again.
I could not stop reading. I did not want it to end. Actioned-packed and intelligent CAN go together!

A terrifying depiction of an innocent man’s anticipation of his own execution. I had a stomach ache when I finished reading, the story is so gripping and profound.

Klavan is a terrific writer that pulled me into the story and made it very difficult to stop reading. This is a different kind of thriller that gets you into the head of multiple characters. It has changed the way I will think about the death penalty from now on.

I don't recall how or why I selected this book, but it was a good choice. A five year old child was used in an experiment that caused her to be able to heal others by touching them. Everyone else had died who was in this experiment. This corporate pharmacy wants to kidnap this child from her single mother, sell her to the highest bidder and have her killed so they can keep their secret. The cat and mouse game is what takes place. Well written!

This is a great read for young adult boys, and as a one-time young adult myself, a great read for me too. I didn't realize it was book 2 of a series until Amazon invited me to rate the book, which is a good thing. The book stands on its own, although I was wondering at certain points why the backstory wasn't the story (I understand now). Parents will appreciate the fact that the protagonist, although a fugitive, is a principled person with developed moral character.

Actually, my stating I loved it doesn't even touch the service. I could not put it down. If the book were a man, I'd marry it! Please send me a list of like books. Thank you.

Not just a great thriller, the book is beautifully written. I love the way he wove Gothic ghost stories into the plot. No wonder the author has won so many Edgars.

Excellent writing, good story, good characters. I liked the main character, despite his flaws that would normally put me off, but his story is one of redemption, so I was sympathetic to his situation and wanted him to succeed. This book is absorbing and one of those that are hard to put down once started. The author is one of my favorites. His writing is fluid and expressive.

This was a good read. I saw the movie ages ago, but I really didn't remember a lot about it. I enjoy reading because I can cast the characters, set the scenes and watch my own "movie" as I turn the pages. I appreciate an author that doesn't overly describe every little thing so that I'm left something for my imagination to do. The subject matter may be dark, but I've always held somewhat of a fascination for what we humans are capable of doing to one another. If the same is true of you...you would most likely enjoy Don't Say A Word.
Good Read!

What an intense read this book is. It's definitely gfs some really adult situations about sex, child molestation, mental goals, and of course murder. This absolutely a book for adults only. I know there is a movie from this book and I watched when it came out, but with it being so long ago I was able to see the people as they are here and not the actors in the movie. It's a going terrifying read that keeps you guessing until the very end.
Hooked me in from the first chapter…

Mr. Klavan's gift for keeping us on the edge of our seats continues in this novel of a teenager trapped in a nightmare, no longer sure what is true. Charlie West's story raises the question: "What if I woke up in a world I didn't recognize, accused of crimes I don't remember, hunted by an organization I have no memory of joining?" The book manages to weave together the common details of everyday life with an extraordinary adventure.

Great conclusion to the series of stories. Very fun, quick read, never slow or boring. I think this book has more graphic details of sex than the other books.

Some spoilers will of necessity follow: If you’ve ever watched the news and waited for the talking heads to tell it like it really is, and then fallen sleep frustrated, this book is for you. If you notice patterns in the events of the day, wondering why no one else has identified the same, then gotten lightheaded from the spin as your thoughts are swept away by the pivoting of intellectually dishonest media and weak-willed response from our nation’s leaders, you will enjoy this book. If you are a hard left wonk, you will not.
A thriller for the rest of us.

Ex-high school QB, Rick Dial, must enter the Mind War realm yet again. The evil genius Kurodar, although defeated, has not been destroyed. The virtual realm he has created using supercomputers linked to his mind has obtained access into the very minds of his enemies. Now, using this toehold and his web of spies, the madman has gained control of a super laser and prepares to fry most of North America. Only Rick and the girl he has come to find might be more than he realized can battle the terrorist in the Mind War Realm and save the country in the real world. But can he accomplish his quest without destroying himself and In his conclusion to The MindWar Trilogy, Andrew Klavan does not disappoint. With another high action sci-fi thriller, he delves into the inner minds of both the hero and the antagonist with insight and imagination as these two minds, one flawed, one totally corrupt do battle. The highly creative setting, plot twists and nice romantic element, make Game Over a fun and satisfying read.

I will never get tired of reading this series. It's suspenseful, engaging, emotional, and full of adrenaline-pumping action. Andrew Klavan's writing style is the best that I've ever read (and I've read a lot of books)! Charlie West is one of the best fictional characters ever! He's so loyal, honest, and brave. I already own this series, I actually bought this copy for a friend (she loves it!)! I couldn't pass up the opportunity to say how much I love this series. As I type this, I want to re-read it again! Game Over is an exciting fast paced conclusion to a great trilogy. I'm a little sad that the series is over, but I loved it all the way through. I plan to read through this series again in the future, I really enjoyed it. Rick is losing control of his ability to separate real life from The Realm. (The Realm is a computer world that Rick can enter, but things done there can affect real life. Think the Matrix, but different) He has gone into the Realm so many times that his mind had become hard wired to it and Rick finds himself fading between the two worlds. In the Realm his is pitted against Kurodar, a man that is pure evil and controls the Realm. While in the Realm Rick has to fight off snakes, harpies, bear soldiers and more. Twists and turns are common place in this high octane ride. This book would work as a stand alone book, but it will make more sense and you'll enjoy it more if you read the whole trilogy. This is one wild ride, I loved it and plan to read it again. Five Stars.
An amazing adventure comes to an end in this third book of an amazing trilogy.

The trilogy is a worthy successor to Klavan's previous young people's fiction - the plot lines and characters develop and grow, surprises lurk around every corner, and though this is a cliche the books really are page turners; from the young disillusioned mind's first entry into an ugly mind, to the somewhat Potter-esque finish, a very fine work. I hope to see more from Klavan and to see these fine works rendered in visual media.

One bad chapter does not mean a bad book. Klavan had to give his best character his due and circumstances limited what could be done. That said, this book is terrific. Three protagonists are weaved into a good story. But it's the characters that keep my interest. Klavan is excellent as a writer and story teller.
Great characters

The Weiss/Bishop novels make a great trilogy & I recommend starting with Dynamite Road, the first one. Klavan is a born raconteur and is also funny and insightful. You won't forget Weiss & Bishop, that's for sure. Or the evil Shadowman either. Lots of summer reading fun. I'm on Werewolf Cop now.

This four book in one is best series I have read. Andrew Klavan did great job on this. The boy wake up, he can't remember whole one year of his life. He's on the run, is he wanted for world's dangerous traitorous American terrorist? Why's Prince wanting him to return alive or dead? Depends on circumstance, if this is very patriotic book.

In the book Mrs. White, authors Andrew Klavan and Laurence Klavan write about Mrs. White, a housewife whose world seems to be going well. But then she begins to wonder if her husband is having an affair. What she doesn’t realize is that here hard-working carpenter husband has another secret that is more horrifying than she thinks! This was an excellent read with very good character development. I would highly recommend this book.

My 15-year-old son has to read for school. Hates reading. He read this in less than a week and enjoyed it. I have rarely heard him compliment a book and he said it was good. He did liked Hunger games, Diary of a wimpy Kid, and Captain underpants but that is all I can remember through the years. I bought him a series of 4 books by Andrew Klavan and he has already read the first one of those. My 17-year-old daughter is reading this and she also likes it.
My son read it and he read it quickly!!!

Klavan finally tones down the politics, or at least is more subtle about it than he had been previously, and it improves his work a great deal. I happen to share his political views but he has to learn to keep his art and his political stuff separate. The result is a fun read with some spiritual substance. I met him at a conference in '07 just as he started getting more active as a conservative voice for the arts and he was brilliant. The kind of guy you'd want for a next door neighbor. Here's hoping this book gets optioned and filmed. It a potential blockbuster.
Would make a great movie

I work in publishing and found this book through the PW review, which doesn’t quite know what to make of it. In fact, after finishing and loving it, I still am not sure what to make of it. If you’re like me, you probably don’t have much experience with gory-yet-nuanced, action-packed, teleological thrillers. About a werewolf. A week later, I can’t get this story out of my head. That it refuses to allow itself to be categorized speaks to its wild effectiveness. I still don’t quite know what to make of it, and I can’t wait for the sequel.
Can’t wait for the sequel

Werewolf Cop is hands-down Klavan’s best work since Empire of Lies. It’s often my experience that with thrillers, either the characters or the plot stand out or suffer at the expense of the other. This is definitely not the case in Werewolf Cop. The characters are so well fleshed out, especially the protagonist Zach Adams, that they absolutely keep pace with the unrelenting storyline. I can say without risk of exaggeration, I did not move from my chair from the first chapter to the last.
Incredible!
Alissa M. -
I am a Klavan fan from way back, and this book delivers. Klavan does a great job as always telling a pulse-pounding tale while weaving in psychological thrills and mysterious hints until the whole truth comes to light. A Killer in the Wind deals with a subject that I am barely able to countenance - the child sex trade - in a readable way. There is nothing graphic or even specific, only allusions. Not the usual Klavan HEA (one of the reasons I love his stories) but there is resolution and satisfaction, and the door is left open for a possibly better future.
Klavan-Style Thrills, Mystery and Action. A Great Read!
Kia Heavey -
Werewolf cop: A Novel. Andrew Klavan has done it again, maybe even more profoundly. The story combines fast action, love, betrayal, self sacrifice, justice, . His characters are real people who go to church, sin, work, laugh, cry, fail and are forgiven. The situation is crazy uncanny, but interesting. How much evidence does it take? " Do you believe in this?" "Yeah, sure." The gretchenfrage.
Fun read full of deep thoughts

Andrew Klavan is a wonderful story teller. I have read 7 of his books for teens/young adults and find them spell-binding and not sure of what will happen until the end. I'm 65 and liked all 7 of his books that I read.
Outstanding author.
Gary A Hurtienne -
I may not agree with Klavan's (conservative) viewpoint but I know sheer brilliance when I see it. For his writing skills alone this is worth reading. It is always heartwarming to read that transformation is possible. We are not stuck in our personalities (identity). We have choice and free will. Moment to moment we decide whether to be on the side of the angels. I also liked the small romance hidden in the text.
Brilliant!

I couldn't put this book down once I started reading it. Creepy and (unlike most other mystery books I've read) hard to predict who would end up being the villain in the story. All together one of the most creative stories I've read. Brought on a full range of emotions for me--from fear to tears of sadness and joy. Also stresses good values such as honesty, integrity, courage.

I discovered this author by chance while searching for books for my then 12 year old son, who was a reluctant reader because of Dyslexia. We loved the Homelanders series so I chose this to try. I read it first and it had a dark edge to it; wasn't sure I would let him read this quite yet. However, Klavan wove this story together in a clever and intriguing way. I was surprised at the direction it took, which as a voracious reader, I don't find all that often. Well written, both my son and I loved it! I highly recommend this for any parent who is trying to get their kid to read.
Great read for adults and young readers!
racingmom -
Suspense and adventure dominate this series. At times it seemed a bit tedious with the main character in yet another desperate situation so similar to previous ones, but that may be due to my old age. Some illustrations of the areas where he was held or through which he had to travel to escape would have been nice. It is really good to find a book with characters that stand up for what is right. This is taking place in our current time and is (sadly) all to real in terms of what is happening in our nation. So here is one kid who has an appreciation for our Constitution, for freedom, decency, etc. Young people can learn from this guy.
Good clean read for teens

I have really enjoyed all the Klavan books I have read. He has appeared on Red Eye a few times and he has a quick wit. So I looked up his writing. I will pick up another of the John Wells mysteries. He is a hard-bitten, old fashioned journalist. I can picture Humphrey Bogart playing the part.

This was the first of Klavan's books that I've read and it won't be the last. Not knowing much about his work, I figured I'd start here and see where I ended up. If We Survive is definitely action-packed, from nearly the first page to the last and has a level of detail to the settings and situations that draw the reader in. Even with extraordinary situations, I could easily relate to the characters and their various back stories, which did not detract from the main plot.

I loved this book so much that I finished the book in one day, actually it took me about 6 to 7 hrs total. Once Rick decided to leave the house until the end I was totally into the book, and just couldn't put it down. It was just an adventure, and one awesome ride. I loved his kid brother Raider so much, I just loved how much he loves and looks up to his big brother. And I loved that Rick even thou his really upset with what happened to him that he tried so hard not to be hateful and mean to his little brother. I loved the game world that Rick went into, and the creepy creatures he encountered while in that world. I love the characters of Mariel and Fabian that he meet along the way, who really helped him a lot while he was in the game world. I really can't wait to find out more about those two, who are they really, and how did they end up in the game world. I really didn't like Mars at all, and was so happy that Rick said what he did to him towards the end of the book. I really can't wait to find out what happens next in the story. I received this book to review from the Publisher by the way of NetGalley. For just agreeing to read the book and give them my honest opinion on how I felt about the book. And am so happy that I loved it so much. I will definitely read the next book which I have on my trbl, and recommend it to other people to read as well.

As I read this story, I thought this had sort of an occult feel to it, but as you get further into the story it all makes sense. This is a book with a lot of depth. Our hero, Dan Champion, is appealing, an everyman, as he comes to realize the compulsions that have been driving him. Fascinating.
Great writing, outstanding story

That's how I describe Klavan's characters. The writing is lean and moves along at a good pace. A no point did I skip any of the dialog or pages as I normally do when a story gets bogged down. This didn't happen. The dialog works well and is believable. Klavan does an excellent job of reading his own work and definitely adds the emotion and delivery the way he wants his characters to sound.
Real and gritty

I love Andrew's style of writing. It's captivating, thrilling, and he has an amazing skill of bring the story together in a way you never saw coming. My normal metric to decide if I liked a book is how quickly I reread it; I gulp it down, then go back and savor it. This book was different. The first half had me “turning” pages as fast as I could read, but the second half made me want to slow down and make it last longer. Andrew Klavan is a trustworthy writer who is not going to put inappropriate things in front of YA readers. This book though has something more going on and like The Hobbit, lends itself well to reading out loud. When I finished the book I started plotting how I could fit it into family reading time. It is that good and should be shared with the whole family.
More please.

Andrew KlavAn is a wonderful writer. The story veered into the supernatural, but was well thought out. The hero, Storm was very interesting. I enjoy Mr. KlavAn's way of incorporating morality into his stories, almost like Ayn Rand. It makes the plots better. He may be my new favorite author. I am already reading another of his novels. I highly recommend this book. One person found this helpful

Terrorists, only a short period of time to stop them, and the teenage boy who knows the truth of what they're up to…if only he can remember. It's an engaging story, with a likable viewpoint character in a difficult situation. The plot develops well, regularly ratcheting up the tension to keep the reader engaged, while also involving the reader in the character's thought processes. Klavan successfully injects some philosophical threads into this; a characteristic of his novels that help to make them especially enjoyable. A good read.
Well done, Mr. Klavan!

Wow I literally was barely able to stop reading this book to eat lunch! I would highly recommend all four of the homelander series books for any teen or young adult that likes action packed reads! I also love how Andrew Klavan always keeps good morals in his stories and even mentions God often.

This book brings together the importance of a humans values. Countless times Charlie has to decide what he values in life, and act accordingly. This includes his country, his family, and the love of his life to name a few. Along with a regular teen life a lot of us can relate to, it doesn't take long before becoming a page turner. Being the first book in a series of four, you won't learn about the whole story in this first read. At first, i thought it was a little too simple and spectacular, almost like a fantasy when you read about the miraculous things he does. But at the end, it leaves an incredible cliff hanger that eventually made me read the next three. As you go through the series, you will appreciate the first book more as the story unravels and reveals the true meaning for Charlie's actions.
An Absolute Must Read

Andrew Klavan gets the human mind. He digs into the human soul and he can develop a character's thoughts like few other authors can. The story is well laid out and comes together extremely well. The adventure is exciting but it is the human analysis and experience that makes this a best book. More than one ultimate fundamental truth is acted out in this book and they await the reader to discover.
Klavan gets it.

All Andrew Klavan books I've read so far are teen action adventures. But there's always another genre going on, & he keeps you guessing as to what it is. Homelanders had aspects of sci-fi, and this one seems like it might be supernatural. Is it? You have to read it to find out.
No longer critical, I’m a fan.

Mr. Klavan develops an intriguing storyline allowing the characters and reader to experience big revelations simultaneously. There wasn't any "saw that coming" in this book. I'm usually skittish about suspense novels with the word Killer in the title but this one made it's point without sending me to therapy.
Moves as quickly as the wind

...to make sure it was ok. There's some violence, but none of it is gratuitous. I particularly liked the stereotypical characters. My children have not met such persons before, and I had good discussions with them about these characters, e.g., a liberal who will stick his head in the sand to ignore an ugly truth. My 14 year old son read it first, then my 13 year old daughter, then my 10 year old daughter. They all loved it, and couldn't put it down. I am ordering Klavan's entire "Homelander" series for them.
I read the book before my kids….

Jump into this action packed page turner, loaded with wit and humor; follow this star reporter's ethical conflict - to stick to real news or go for the gutter news we are all too familiar with—as he uncovers the layers of lies and truths behind an aspiring politician caught in compromising pictures with a young woman. Andrew Klavan joins the ranks of the hard boiled masters in this must read mystery, THE RAIN. You won't be disappointed.
An action-packed page turner

Yes - this is a great story by a writer who never fails to hold our interest. A star reporter who accidentally uncovers a politician's secret life has to curtsy around legalities and ethical conflicts associated with his job. Some humor, but mostly edge-of-your seat thriller! Lies and truths surround some photos that only he has seen and no one is able to find. Don't miss it.
Terrific story from a favorite author

'Look,' she said wearily from the stairs. I was leaning against the stove, studying her stupid sneakers. My arms crossed, my soul leaden with sorrow. 'I just don't want to approach you too fast. I know you don't like journalists. I saw you on TV: slamming the door? That's why I was watching...' 'Oh, admit it: you were being mysterious and romantic.' 'Jesus!' One of her little sneaks gave a little stomp. 'You sound just like my father.' Fortunately, this arrow went directly through my heart and came out the other side, so there was no need to have it surgically removed, which can be expensive....
A Book to Break Your Heart
Lars Walker -
I seriously can find nothing wrong with this book. Written in a simple, down-to-earth, first person style, it is still somehow well written. Klavan is a master. He seamlessly mixes current action with the necessary background information, giving you time to breathe and laugh before being thrown back into the fray. The main character is not the typical teenage boy you find in most novels. Though there is a girl he likes, he's not head over heels, and he actually knows what he believes and acts on it. Though there is a little blood and some fist fights(karate, actually), over all I would not call it a violent book. It is very intense, though; not for the weak of heart. The ending leaves you longing for the next book yet finishes nicely, unlike the Left Behind: The Kids books, which always leave you desperately hanging. So, I would recommend this to almost anyone! Tighten your seat belts and enjoy the ride!
Perfectly Thrilling!
S.K. Wells -
I enjoyed the first volume of this series, "The Last Thing I Remember," but the second volume "turns up the volume" on the action and suspense. The central mystery gets only more murky, as suspicion falls upon the last person you'd suspect. My reading list is overfull right now, but somehow I always find time for this book series--a sure sign that Klavan is doing something right.
Klavan Turns Up the Volume

The third book in the "Homelanders" series by Andrew Klavan continues the story of Charlie West and the ever-evolving terror group that has targeted him. The series is the closest thing to the TV show "24" that I have read. Characters develop slowly and Klavan's revelations about them are well constructed. You are always surprised. Read the first two books, "The Last Thing I Remember" and "The Long Way Home" in order before reading this one. There will be one more book in the series. I am enjoying them.

This is the second book I've read from Tony Parsons, and he is quickly becoming my favorite author. I have to say that I liked this one even more than the first, Man and Boy (as great as that was). I am a woman, and although I'm sure men can relate very closely to Harry, I loved this book. Harry Silver is a very human, likeable character and Tony writes in such a way that you feel you are right there with him and his characters. Without giving too much away, this book takes over from the first one and gives us insight into the "blended" families that are so common. I feel I know each of the characters so well, and was so sad to have finished the book so quickly. Tony, please give us more Harry Silver...
Another magnificent book from Tony Parsons.

Klavan is an excellent writer, and here creates a novel of pacing, setting the scene carefully and then swinging it into motion until you can't wait to get to the next word. The background ideas involve the distortions of media, viewpoint, and experience, and tracing their consequences through. It challenges us to live for true things, and to be able to say them even to people who are terrified to hear the truth and who will shout us down for speaking it.
Excellent, Fast paced novel
Arnold F. Williams -
This book was terrific fun. A multi-faceted gem that works on so many different levels--satire, parody, comedy, drama, mystery, allegory, suspense. It's amazing that the author is able to bring so much to such a deceptively simple and gripping narrative. Though it's mostly the plot that propels you along, I found myself equally curious to discover the protagonist's--and the author's--ethical conclusions. This book is a complex, harrowing thriller, but it's also something even more rare and rewarding: a brilliant work of art. Kudos to Klavan!
Rare Gem of a Thriller

Good storyline, interesting characters, plot twists and interesting insights about life that will stay with you long after you read it. What more could you ask out of a detective story?
Smart and funny detective story

I read Klavan's "Empire of Lies," really enjoyed it and thought I'd try something else by him. This book is just as good, but without the author's politics inserted into the story. You'd think that this book might be a little less charged than "Empire of Lies" for that reason, but it makes up in grittiness what it lacks in political observation. This is hardcore men's fiction with a lot of violence, a little gruesomeness, and ultra-tough (but romantic-at-heart) male characters.

The Weiss Agency has been commissioned to investigate corruption at a Northern California airport. Ex-cop P.I. Scott Weiss sends tough-as-nails operative Jim Bishop on assignment to infiltrate and uncover illegal activities. Weiss begins a few investigations of his own, one of which ties a dangerous assassin to the case Bishop is working. Weiss attempts to reel Bishop in, but Bishop forges ahead according to his own rules which lands him on a clandestine rendezvous in the middle of nowhere. He soon finds that his cover is compromised with no way of communicating a warning about what he discovered. In a race against time, Weiss must use his instincts and Bishop his hard edge to take down a criminal conspiracy. The characters are tough, passionate, and humanly flawed. The plot is wound tight with enough cliff-hangers to keep you teetering on the edge. Guaranteed to keep you turning the page--hard-boiled detective fiction at its finest!
A hellfire thriller of dynamic proportions!

"The Scarred Man" is a great book which was written under a pen name by Andrew Klavan, author of "Don't Say a Word", "True Crime", and "The Animal Hour." Like "The Animal Hour", this is a surprising creepy book that almost crosses genres from mystery to horror.
Great, suspenseful novel by Andrew Klavan

I read Man and Boy and was so excited for the next book. True to form, in Man and Wife, Mr. Parsons continued with his insightful documentation of the emotional turmoil he went through during his divorce. I secretly hoped in his second work, he and "Gina" would get back together. This series is so real, I recommended it to a man fighting over custody of his son. It documents with clarity what children of divorce should know about thier parents anguish, making decisions with and without regard to their children's emotional outcome. It put into words, what causes a man to want to stray and sometimes with horrible outcomes. Such a sensitive author! Bravo!
Such Insight!

This is the first novel I've read by Andrew and I have read 130 thrillers in the past year. 10 occupy my "hall of fame" shelf. Dynamite Road makes it 11. In the context of a tough guy mystery, Klavan spins out original gut punching turns of phrase in which I delight. My copy bleeds with yellow highlighter. Ignore, the name Shadowman and read the book for its brilliant simplicity. 5 people found this helpful

First the bad: This book is a lot like 'Man and Boy' and it does have a lot of plot elements. It is not a long deep look at one day or one relationship. Now the good: This book is a lot like 'Man and Boy.' It is the most riveting, yet real, book on relationships this 36-year-old divorced guy has ever read. The relationships between me and my Dad, me and my Mum, and the new 'blended' families of ex- and step- fathers wives and girlfriends. There are some truly wonderful pages. It's a framework to measure yourself with, a metric to begin to ask questions about yourself with. I am never going to take 'The Grand Tour' of teenage lovers turning into newlyweds into babies and boys and retirement together and grand parenting. It is too late for me now. Instead it's Tony Parsons' world of wanting and understanding too late. Emotional guys trying to do right and somehow not getting there yet. The book aims deep inside and hits the target. Somewhere between the heart and the gut.
A real relationship book for men

"Man and Wife" is an excellent novel and once I started it I couldn't put it down! Andrew Klavan gets better with every novel and he's definitely made it to my favorite author list. I HIGHLY recommend it to anyone who wants a story of suspense that keeps you on the edge of your seat right to the last page. In my opinion this novel is a definite MUST READ!!
Another hit for Andrew Klavan!

I've read the other reviews here. If a book is called " The Uncanny" I guarantee it's of the horror genre. Why everyone expected a "True Crime-ish" novel is beyond me. Richard Storm, a horror movie producer, leaves Hollywood on a quest to London to see if any of the old ghost stories bare any truth. Is there really life after death? When Richard falls in love with Sophia Endering, an art dealer, he finds more then he was looking for. It's a rollercoaster ride through nazi art theft, ghost stories and "The Devil himself". To much said will give away the surprising twists in the story. This was a great horror novel!
I loved it!

Hunting Down Amanda is an electrifying page turner from the moment you lift the cover. The thrilling intrigue and suspense captivate your attention from the beginning and never allow you to lose your grip. The perils of Carol Dodson and Lonnie Blake will have you cheering for them as you turn each and every page. Complete with the evil villain Winter, Hunting Down Amanda is one book you will actually want to read over and over again. From the award winning author, Andrew Klavan, this is another one of his novels you would love to see on the "big screen" next to True Crime. I'm dying for a sequel.
Thrilling intrigue and suspense!
Shop-Til-You-Drop -
Hunting Down Amanda is a brilliant novel for its almost perfect coincidence of idea and story. The work is a modern retelling of the Orpheus and Eurydice story from Greek mythology (complete with a disgruntled Classics professor who retells the famous myth for those who might not otherwise know the story). At the same time, the level of suspense is maintained: will this modern story end tragically as the Greek myth does?
the best thriller of the year

I have read all of the classics. I have read some of the most famous and acclaimed books ever written. This is my favorite book. Thrilling from front to back cover, intelligently written, outstanding character development... It's a shame this book is out of print. Andrew Klavan has not received enough attention for this novel. Whoever finally decides to make a movie out of this will sweep the Academy Awards. I love this book.
BEST NOVEL EVER

This book is highly exciting from the very beginning. I literally could not put it down. I can't believe this was not made into a movie. This would be as good as anything Hitchcock or Brian DePalma ever did. I highly recommend this book. It is a great story which is incredibly written. Andrew Klavan deserves much more attention that he is getting. Awesome.
Non-Stop intensity. Compelling from the first page
John O. Mccall -
I picked up this novel thinking that I would not like it. All I can say is, boy, was I wrong. From the first page describing the plane crash from hell, to the tense and griping denouement, Klavan convinces the reader to stay in his world. This is not the typical suspense thriller. The reader has to practically finish the book before he/she knows why somebody wants to find Amanda. The joy is to guess why that somebody needs to find her. Klavan makes us want to finish his book in one siting, a rare accomplishment. Read this book when you have two or three days to spare.
A tightly wound and well written novel

Andrew Klavan has, for some years, been writing some of the best genre fiction around. His True Crime was atour de force of suspense. He followed that up with Agnes Mallory(published only in England thus far)which was a lovely book, and now he gives us The Uncanny. As usual, it's well written with terrific characters and dialogue. And the ghost stories are truly atmospheric and creepy. The book's invention never flags. If you're a fan of Klavan you'll enjoy this thoroughly. If you're not a fan, this book may convert you.
another uncanny Klavan
