What should have been an ordinary morning is about to spiral into a day of unrelenting terror.
As a reporter for his high school newspaper, Tom is always on the lookout for an offbeat story. But from the moment he woke up this morning, his own life has been more bizarre than any headline could ever tell.
The streets of his town are suddenly empty and silent. A strange fog has drifted in from the sea and hangs over everything. And something is moving in that fog. Something evil. Something hungry. Closing in on Tom.
Tom’s terrified girlfriend Marie says the answers lie at the Santa Maria Monastery, a haunted ruin standing amidst a forest blackened by wildfire. But can he trust her? A voice that seems to be coming from beyond the grave is warning him that nothing is what it seems.
Only one thing is certain: with his world collapsing around him, Tom has only a few hours to recover the life he knew—before he, too, is lost forever in this nightmare city.

NIGHTMARE CITY REVIEWS
I will never get tired of reading this series. It's suspenseful, engaging, emotional, and full of adrenaline-pumping action. Andrew Klavan's writing style is the best that I've ever read (and I've read a lot of books)! Charlie West is one of the best fictional characters ever! He's so loyal, honest, and brave. I already own this series, I actually bought this copy for a friend (she loves it!)! I couldn't pass up the opportunity to say how much I love this series. As I type this, I want to re-read it again! I've lost track of how many times I've read it... 🙂
This four book in one is best series I have read. Andrew Klavan did great job on this. The boy wake up, he can't remember whole one year of his life. He's on the run, is he wanted for world's dangerous traitorous American terrorist? Why's Prince wanting him to return alive or dead? Depends on circumstance, if this is very patriotic book.
Suspense and adventure dominate this series. At times it seemed a bit tedious with the main character in yet another desperate situation so similar to previous ones, but that may be due to my old age. Some illustrations of the areas where he was held or through which he had to travel to escape would have been nice. It is really good to find a book with characters that stand up for what is right. This is taking place in our current time and is (sadly) all to real in terms of what is happening in our nation. So here is one kid who has an appreciation for our Constitution, for freedom, decency, etc. Young people can learn from this guy.
Terrorists, only a short period of time to stop them, and the teenage boy who knows the truth of what they're up to…if only he can remember. It's an engaging story, with a likable viewpoint character in a difficult situation. The plot develops well, regularly ratcheting up the tension to keep the reader engaged, while also involving the reader in the character's thought processes. Klavan successfully injects some philosophical threads into this; a characteristic of his novels that help to make them especially enjoyable. A good read.
Wow I literally was barely able to stop reading this book to eat lunch! I would highly recommend all four of the homelander series books for any teen or young adult that likes action packed reads! I also love how Andrew Klavan always keeps good morals in his stories and even mentions God often.
The third book in the "Homelanders" series by Andrew Klavan continues the story of Charlie West and the ever-evolving terror group that has targeted him. The series is the closest thing to the TV show "24" that I have read. Characters develop slowly and Klavan's revelations about them are well constructed. You are always surprised. Read the first two books, "The Last Thing I Remember" and "The Long Way Home" in order before reading this one. There will be one more book in the series. I am enjoying them.
